Pilot Project in Komi and NAO: The All-Russian conference “Stationary research on forest and marsh biogeocenoses: ecology, productional process and dynamics” with the participation of international experts has been held at the Institute of Biology (Komi Ural branch, RAS)

On 14-23 September 2016, at the Institute of Biology, Komi Science Center, Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, the All-Russian Conference “Stationary Research on Forest and Marsh Biogeocenoses: Ecology, Productional Process and Dynamics” with the participation of international experts was held. 61 experts, including 12 doctors of science and 44 candidates of science, took part in the work of the Conference. They represented research teams of academic and sectoral research institutes, universities and other organizations from 13 regions of the Russian Federation. The issues of conservation of forest and marsh biogeocenoses under climate change and man’s impact and the role of stations in conducting long-term environmental observations in taiga and tundra zones were considered at the Conference. Plenary reports were made by leading experts in the field of forest and peat-land science from the Republic of Komi, Karelia, Moscow and Saint Petersburgh. Due to a field trip to the Yugyd va National Park, the participants of the Conference had a chance to visit unique natural sites of the Pre-Polar Urals and study methods and sites of the long-term environmental monitoring conducted by the staff of the Institute of Biology within the framework of the UNDP/GEF project implemented in the Republic of Komi.

On the last day of the Conference, a one-day trip to the forest ecological station of the Institute of Biology in Lyali Village and the Medla-Pev-Nyur bog stationary research site in the Syktyvdinsky region was made. The Conference was held with the financial support provided by the UNDP/GEF (ClimaEast) project in the Republic of Komi.
